This conversation makes the rest of today seem boring

(Okay, not really.  I went to a giant Forever 21 and it was amazing.  Then I went over to Sharon's and she and Ellie and I ate dinner and watched "Chicago."  I love musicals and friends and shopping.  It was a very nice day.)

You haven't come this far to fall off the earth

Despite the fact that I did horribly on my English final and my grade (and therefore my GPA) is currently hanging in the balance, here is a list of the things that I love right now:
1. John Mayer lyrics
2. Emma Watson
3. The outrageously magnificent things that Andrew McMahon thinks up
4. Sleeping in
5. Singing at the top of my lungs when no one else is home
6. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen
7. Lists
8. My friends
9. Pretty pictures
10. New Purses
My grade's already gone up.  :)

Finals and Books

Facebook chat is driving me up the wall. That's the next thing they need to fix. I don't care about the news feed or the tabs on the profiles. Just fix chat, sil-vous-plait!

Today was a lot of fun, post-finals.

I think I was outlining the limits for Sardines here, and then Sharon was aiming the camera at me, so I exaggerated my arm movements.  Meanwhile Simone's Steven laughed at me and Ellie stood strangely.  Fun day.

Sharon and I decided that we're going to complete the list of 1001 Books to Read Before You Die.  She did the math, and if we read at least 16 books per year, assuming we've already read 30 (which I haven't - I've only read around 15), then the list will take us approximately 66 years to complete.  Sixty-six years from now I will be 82, and I hope that I don't spend the next 66 years reading, but we'll see.

Anyhow, Sharon wants us to blog about it - reactions and reviews and the like.  If you're interested in following us on this masochistic journey, we're here.  In February we're going to be reading The End of The Affair by Graham Greene.  It's number 532 (I think?) on the list.  We're pretty excited about it.

We're also pretty excited about the new giant Forever 21 at the mall.  Saturday!  :)

Jason Mraz is stuck in my head but that doesn't match this post

There is a certain person that I am friends with who drives me crazy. And not in a good way.

This person is rude and interrupts conversations and has no sense of personal space and puts down everything that I like. This person cannot answer a straight-forward question and only reads half of messages and then asks questions that were answered in the second half of the message. This person will not take horrible pictures of me from two years ago off of facebook and acts like a little kid with the taboo buzzer and sometimes just won't shut up. This person is also in desperate need of a haircut.

And I hate that I let people get to me like this. I'm never going to be able to keep a job anywhere if I let little things about people annoy me.

Also, I hate finals. And when everyone around me is joking about something but I don't get it. And bad hair days, and people who complain about how much they weigh, and the amount of days in a year that aren't weekends.

I don't have any song lyrics stuck in my head right now

I really really really suck at studying. And then I go in and take the tests and think I did really well and only get B's. I hate that. I hate finals week. I didn't even do half of my physics review sheet. Ugh.

But this weekend is going to be a lot of fun. If I can make it til then. Plans include game afternoonish thing, rampaging the new gigantic forever 21, packing lunches for the homeless, exchanging nail polishes, and sleeping a lot.

Picture time! Cause my brain hurts. I love my faux-polaroid maker.

The secret to the crabby patty recipe

The roller coaster that was this weekend is best explained through a series of pictures of Spongebob, and accompanying music.

You're the best definition of good intention

Sometimes it feels even worse to be right than it does to be wrong.
I feel like one of those girls from Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul right now.
I can't talk about this on here.

Why is the heater on so fricking high?

Deer: May 21 – Jun 20

This Native American animal symbol is the muse of the zodiac. The Deer is inspiring lively and quick-witted. With a tailor-made humor, the Deer has a tendency to get a laugh out of anyone. Excellent ability for vocalizing, the Deer is a consummate conversationalist. This combined with his/her natural intelligence make the Deer a must-have guest at dinner parties. Always aware of his/her surroundings, and even more aware of his/her appearance, the Deer can be a bit self-involved. However, the Deer’s narcissism is overlooked because of his/her congeniality and affability. In a supportive environment the Deer’s natural liveliness and sparkly personality radiate even more. He/she is an inspiring force in any nurturing relationship. Left to his/her own devices the Deer can be selfish, moody, impatient, lazy, and two-faced.
I think it sounds like me.

The weather we're having right now is outrageous. I love the rain - when I'm inside. But walking around in the rain is miserable, especially when people hit you with their umbrellas and stand in the middle of crowded breezeways to talk to their friends, or in the middle of pathways to wait for their friends. Usually the only way around is through puddles or through the rain, and either way, it's wet. I hate being wet.

My dog fell asleep on the floor of my bedroom and she was making little dreaming squeaks until my mom took her out a minute ago. I love puppies. And I love love love love love this song. It's just amazing and I keep listening to it over and over. The beauty in art is just... indescribable. I know that makes no sense... people amaze me. Yep.

That's why I want to visit Europe. I'm learning about all these amazing paintings and sculptures and huge Gothic churches in art history, and to be able to go there and experience everything in person... just, wow.

I'm using a lot of dotdotdots tonight. Ellipses? Yeah, I think that's what they're called.

Tomorrow's Friday. :)

We'll sit among the gravestones and I'll try to break the news

Disclaimer: this is a negative post.

I hate when something that's supposed to be good turns out bad.

I hate that I take everything so seriously and so personally.

I hate that I care so much about things I shouldn't care so much about.

I hate math homework that involves graphing.

I hate when I get A's on essays when I know don't deserve them.

I hate knowing that there are certain people in my life that make me feel like crap on a regular basis, and I hate that I can't cut those people out.

I hate when my little sister gets sick and I know that sooner or later I'm going to catch it from her.

I hate when teachers expect too much from me.

I hate impracticality.

I hate the week before finals.

I hate when someone says something to me and it probably means nothing but I somehow turn it into something.

I hate when the only dresses that go on sale on modcloth are the ugly ones.

I hate when I let one little thing ruin my whole day.

I hate when my computer runs really really slow when I'm trying to write a 6-12 page paper and a DBQ essay.

I hate when I have to walk around in the rain.

I hate when I'm staying up late to do homework, not to write stupid stories and crappy poetry and play my favorite songs over and over and over and let everything else just disappear.

All I'm asking of you now is to just take me back in time to the nights above the city when you swore that you were mine.

I'd lay down on the cold ground

Today I woke up, ate burnt french toast, and read 50 pages of City of God. Then I took a shower, ate lunch, and read another 50 pages of City of God. Then I watched a very bad Disney movie with my dad and sister. The movie was about two kids who find a UFO and then one of the kids develops telepathy and there are girls involved and such. Whenever I watch things like that I always wonder if the people who write about teenagers were ever actually teenagers themselves.

Joking with people over the internet does not work. Also, friending teachers on facebook does not work. Awkward "mixers" of people who do not know each other do not work. And recording videos on facebook without plugging your headset in first doesn't work. And neither does covering Simon & Garfunkel.

New favorite songs:

This song (which I can only seem to find here and on iTunes.)

Volunteering tomorrow. Then I have a bunch of art history stuff to work on, and I neeeeeed to finish City of God if I'm going to finish my 6-12 page review by Thursday. Also Miley haters *coughMichaelKangcough* need to find a better way to spend their days than making fun of fans like me.

And follow my tumblr too because it's cuter than my blog, but I can't go and change my blog name, now can I? I've had it for way to long to switch it up all of a sudden.

Thirty Things

Thirty things that I want to do before I die:

1. Learn to play the guitar.

7. Go to a Star Trek convention, costume optional.
8. Grow my own vegetables.
9. Get something I've written published.

12. Read all of the Kurt Vonnegut books I have sitting on my shelf.
13. Go to France and have a conversation with an actual French person.

What would you do if I wrote you a song

Recent conversation [that occurs almost daily]
My little sister: Why are you so short?
Me: Why are you so tall?

Blogging three nights in a row. Wait, what? Did I join in on one of those blog-every-day adventures without knowing it?

I had no homework tonight. Well, not exactly. I had no homework that's due tomorrow. I have stuff due Tuesday that I should be working on... but I'm not. You know how that goes. I've just been looking up the words from City of God that I don't know and trying not to fall asleep while doing drivers' ed. I really hate drivers' ed. And also I should study French verbs for my quiz tomorrow.

Tomorrow's Friday. Homework weekend! Yup. And bought the VidCon tickets! Click here for a visual representation of my excitement level. In other news.... I have no other news. Possibly time for a random list.

THINGS I THINK AT LEAST ONCE A DAY
(aka further proof that I am crazy)
1. I have no idea what you are saying. Why are you still talking? Why does your hair stick up like that? Is my hair sticking up?
2. I wish I were Emma Watson. I wish Emma Watson was my best friend.
3. How many more minutes until the bell rings? I hate school.
4. Why am I so socially awkward?
5. I want to be a red head.

This post is definitely deserving of both the tags "blah" and "bleh."

Oh, one last thought. Since when is it socially acceptable for junior girls to date sophomore boys? Aren't girls supposed to date older because guys are less mature than girls? And I just think it's sort of a strange thing - especially since a sophomore I know is dating a freshman girl. He could conceivably date a junior next - that's such a difference in intelligence level and maturity and vocabulary strength.

Also, I don't believe that good ideas can come from dreams. That's way too hokey.

Here are all the reasons why I should shut the hell up

So just quit complaining Natasha, why don't you?

1. My family is fine. My dad has a job and my mom doesn't but she doesn't need one. We're fine and I can pay for college just fine and being fine is something that a lot of families aren't right now.

2. My parents are normal. Well, somewhat - my dad's a weirdo, but that's a genetic tendency that I suppose I've got too. But my parents don't ground me for no reason and they drive me where I want to go and they get me nice Chanukah presents and they're not divorced and they don't have restraining orders against each other.

3. I have never broken a bone or been in a car accident or had my house broken into or had a friend die or been in danger of starvation or watched my country fall apart in the aftermath of an earthquake.

4. I have amazing friends in my neighborhood and at my school, and I have amazing friends that live on the other side of the country. But the thing is, as of this moment, none of them are going anywhere.

5. There are things in this world that I completely and totally love. And luckily all of these are things that I have access to, partly because of the above four things.

6. I don't need expensive jeans or three hundred facebook friends or a boyfriend or a tiny butt to feel like I belong or fit in or whatever. I like myself the way I am, and there aren't a lot of teenage girls that can say that.

7. I am easily entertained and rarely bored and can get things done when I want to. I can pass tests without studying and am not in danger of failing classes or getting held back or being forced to spend my life working in McDonald's.

8. I am young. And I'm healthy, despite how much I don't exercise. I'm not dying anytime soon. That's something I don't treasure enough.

9. I think I'm an interesting person. Right? If you're a someone and you've read this far, then I must be interesting to at least some extent, and that's something I should be proud of.

10. I'm happy. Not every minute, not all the time, but for the most part, I'm happy. I know that I have things to be grateful for, and that makes me happy. I know that I have people to love and people that love me, and that makes me happy. And being happy, that just makes me happy.

Does that count as studying? Those are the words off of the list that I sort of don't know. But hopefully I know them better now, because I just typed them up. Ugh, school. Go away.

Apparently I've gone back to random titles that have nothing to do with anything. And rambly blog posts with no point, although maybe I've been doing that all along. To continue: my mom and my little sister are watching "American Idol" downstairs and I can hear the screechy voices of the auditioners all the way up here in my room. And now my dad has come upstairs and is watching something else in his room, and I can hear that too.

I'm having a lot of trouble with City of God by EL Doctorow, which I'm supposed to be reading for English right now. I have to write a 6-to-12 page paper on it by next Thursday, and I'm barely 50 pages in. It's just like me to pick something that's way over my head and doesn't have any SparkNotes and wait til the last minute and not be able to switch to a different book. And 6-to-12 pages is a lot of pages. If I don't finish the book by the end of this weekend I don't know how I'm going to finish at all. And why am I sitting here doing this right now instead of reading?

And now I just got distracted by tumblr and pictures of pretty dresses and Harry Potter characters and David Tennant. I have no life.

How ridiculous

And once again, it's Sunday night and instead of reading like I'm supposed to be, I'm sitting here in front of my computer stalking other people's formal pictures on facebook and pretending I don't need to be doing something else. I hate how school rules my life. And I hate knowing that school is going to rule my life for at least another five years. But at least I'll have a drivers license for most of those, hopefully.

All this looking at formal pictures just makes me want to buy a formal dress. I don't even want to go to formal really, I just want to wear the dress. How ridiculous and dumb is that? I've looked at so many pictures that I'm not in that I've noticed duplicate dresses. Oh god.

Okay, enough of this. I need to get off of my stupid computer and read my book for English class so I can write the 6-12 page paper and I need to edit Megan's NaNoWriMo like I told her I would weeks ago and I need to stop biting my nails and I need to stop needing so much. Maybe I should have someone steel my facebook password so I can't go on for a week. Oh my god, I can't even comprehend not having facebook for a week. What is wrong with me?

Favorite picture from not going to formal last night.

I miss summer. And winter break. I miss being able to stay up late on Sunday nights because I don't have to wake up early the next day to go to school. I miss not having school, period.

In which I say several stupid things

So it turns out I have a tendency to overreact. Also, events this week have revealed that I have a tendency to pass on everything that anyone tells me, as well as a tendency to not do my reading for English when I know I can get away with not doing it. I've developed a sure-fire solution that can fix all of these problems, though: NO ONE TELL ME ANYTHING EVER AGAIN. (And as for the English homework... can I start my resolutions on February 1?) No more making things that aren't my things into my things.

I got my hair cut today. Really short layers again. And it's straight right now, which feels really strange to me - it's been a long time since I straightened my hair. And somehow I now have weird blonde-red-various-shades-of-brown streaks. Hair dye fading? I hope.

I want to go to formal. God, I feel stupid just saying that. But it's sort of going to suck on Sunday when everybody's putting up their formal pictures on facebook and they're all smiling and I'm going to be thinking, why wasn't I there? I hate that stupid standard that says that you have to have a date to go to the dance. Next year, I'm going. And I'm making Ali and Dynah and Briana go too. Yep.

But oh hey! It's the weekend. Homework and homework and homework and then pictures and dinner with my friends who are going to formal tomorrow. Oh, the awkwardness. And Sunday, more homework. And then Monday. Lather, rinse, repeat x2, finalsweekohmygod! School ruins all the fun.

A bit of November for the new year

I was just rereading, and this made me smile. Completely out of context, but here you go:

A few hours later, Rachel and I sit in detention stifling our giggles as the supervisor, Mrs. Corpulent-and-Unaware, does rhythmic dance motions to the beat of whatever is playing in her ear buds. Her stumpy ponytail swings back and forth as she moves her head from side to side, tapping her feet and swaying. She’s still in her seat, but just barely, and I’m just waiting for her to burst over the desk that’s holding her back and explode in a frantic show of 70s disco and 80s aerobicize.

But before she can do that, the classroom door opens, and there’s Charlie. He looks at me and Rachel and winks before turning to Mrs. Corpulent.

“Excuse me,” he says, clearing his throat. When Mrs. Corpulent doesn’t respond – she’s too engrossed in her Cyndi Lauper alter-ego – he speaks a little louder. “Mrs. Carter? Mrs. Carter!”

Mrs. Corpulent flinches and pulls the ear buds from her ears, looking startled. “Oh! Charlie, of course! What can I do for you?”

“That’s my sister you’ve got over there, and see, we’re having a bit of a family emergency, so if you don’t mind-“

“Oh, of course! You’ll need to take her right now, I presume?”

“That’d be great, Mrs. Carter. And Carly too, if you don’t mind. She’s a close family friend.” Charlie gestures toward me.

“Of course, of course! Not a problem, dear.” Mrs. Corpulent smiles, and Rachel and I both stand and gather our things. We walk to the front of the room, extremely careful about containing our giggles now. “Oh! Just let me sign those slips really quick, and you all can be on your way!” She signs them, drawing purple scribbles through the dotted lines, and then waves us forward. “Have a good day!”

Charlie puts a hand on Rachel’s shoulder and a hand on mine, and he propels us toward the doorway. We do not even let the door click shut behind us before we’re consumed by laughter.

“Oh-my-god!” Rachel gasps for air. “Did you see her? DID YOU SEE HER?” She stumbles a few feet forward before doubling over snorting. The textbook she had in her arms clatters to the ground, landing open, and the papers that were jammed inside the front cover are swept up by a sudden gust of wind.

“Oh, shoot!” Rachel cries. Charlie and I rush off in the direction of the papers, which include Rachel’s history homework for the night as well as a cheesy love letter from her last boyfriend and at least five games of MASH we just played while watching Mrs. Corpulent groove to the beat.

Charlie is a foot away from one of the papers, and he leans forward, grazing it with his fingertips. But then he trips on the edge of a concrete planter, launching himself into the air. He does not fall, gracefully catching himself before he touches back down on the ground, but his notebook drops from his arms. It gets caught in midair by the wind and several sheets of paper are swept loose, tumbling over themselves as they fly up above our heads. Rachel’s laughing harder now; she’s actually sitting on the ground, legs splayed out wildly as she grips the developing stitch in her side.

“Holy crap!” Charlie exclaims as he collapses on the ground, resigning himself to his defeat. I do the same, dropping my bag and sitting down on the ground ten feet away from him.

“Oh my god, you guys!” Rachel’s face is red and she’s shaking all over. I know she can’t get the image of her brother flying over the planter and into the air out of her head because I can’t either. My mind has become an instant replay, rewinding and fast-forwarding, zooming in on the surprised expression on Charlie’s face as he realized he was airborne, if only for a moment.

“Rachel!” Charlie stands up and bends down to retrieve his notebook. “Get up!” Rachel’s still laughing, but I pull myself off the ground and start to pick up the pieces of paper that have landed around us.

Five minutes later, Charlie and I have gathered all the sheets up into a pile. We walk over to Rachel, who has been leaning back on her hands for the past few minutes, lazily watching us labor away.

“Your majesty,” I say in my best British accent, bowing. Charlie, beside me, bends as well. “Is this to your liking? What would you have us do now, your highness?” Rachel reaches forward and grabs my hand. She bends her head to kiss it, doing her best Queen Elizabeth impression, but before she can Charlie grabs her other hand and we combine our efforts to pull her up off of the ground. Before she realizes what is happening, Charlie and I have piled our textbooks into her arms and given her all the loose sheets of paper we just collected as well.

“Your queen disapproves,” Rachel says contritely, in an accent that sounds more than a confused Australian cowboy than it does a regal British queen. Then she turns abruptly, still laden with all of our stuff, and walks toward the parking lot. Charlie turns to me, brushing his hair out of his face, and rolls his eyes before the two of us set off slowly behind Rachel.
